Closet Case :: Liz Franco

The lovely Liz Franco and her Brussels Griffon, the ever-so-adorable Walter.

Meet the lovely and talented Liz Franco. I’ve been asking this local lady to let me feature her as part of “Closet Case” for months and months…and my persistent pestering has finally paid off. Yay! Now, let me be clear, my hounding wasn’t necessary because Liz wasn’t down to take part, but simply because this local It Girl is one uber busy lady!

A legislative assistant by day, Liz devotes much of her free time to working as a freelance web and graphic designer as well as maintaining her increasingly popular blog, SRSLYLIZ. With hopes to one day run her own design studio, Liz isn’t afraid to put in the extra hours necessary to make her dream a reality—and I’m certain all her hard work and talent will pay off! Mark. My. Words.

I finally caught up with Liz last weekend at the Victorian-era apartment she shares with her handsome beau, Glenn, and their adorable pooch, Walter. An absolute doll, Liz has a wardrobe chock-full of covetable pieces. Srsly, take a peek…

You can learn more about Liz on Twitter, Flickr and her blog, SRSLYLIZ.

Just rust me. Specs: Maxi skirt and buckle sandals from Forever 21, black tank from Target, owl necklace was a gift.

Describe your personal style.
I’m definitely a girly-girl when it comes to style. At work they call me Carrie {as in Bradshaw} because of my eclectic taste in putting together my wardrobe. Give me sequins, glitter and fun prints! However, I believe confidence is what can make or break your outfit so comfortableness is key as well. I like to feel good about what I’m wearing.

Who are your favorite fashion designers?
I’m not big on labels but I do admire Lauren Conrad’s line. It’s sophisticated yet youthful. Plus its affordable which is a plus.

♬ And they call it puppy love… ♬
Oh, Walter! What’s not to love?

If you could raid anyone’s wardrobe whose would it be?
I would love to raid Zooey Deschanel’s closet. Maybe that’s cliche, but her style is phenomenal.

Where do you turn for fashion inspiration (magazines, web sites, etc.)?
I follow a lot of style blogs which provide me with some great inspiration. A couple of my favorites are Atlantic Pacific and Flashes of Style. They’re always impeccably put together. I also have this little trick where if I really want to wear something but am struggling with how to style it, I look for suggestions on & see how others style the item.

The gray zone.
Strappy happy: Jeffrey Campbell Mochi Platform Wedges from Lulu’s.
New kicks on the block: Color Block Wedges from Lulu’s.
A tall order: Gray Knee-High Riding Boots courtesy of Blowfish Shoes.

Is there an item you’re currently eyeing?
Basically everything from my September lust list.

What was your most recent wardrobe purchase?
Lately there hasn’t been much in my budget that allows for frivolous spending, but I did splurge on some H&M pieces for my birthday last month.

What is one item in your closet you can’t live without?
My black cardigan. It’s a staple item and goes with virtually everything.

Lace up: Black shorts and lace bow cardigan from Forever 21, black tank from Target, black flats courtesy of Blowfish Shoes.
Picture perfect.
Flat black.

What’s in your closet that you’ve never worn?
There’s a military-style vest with brass buttons a friend gave me when she was cleaning out her closet that I’ve yet to wear. It’s such a statement piece that it has to be styled just right.

How often do you purge items from your closet?
Usually once every season. I’m always like, “I don’t have ANYTHING to wear!” I know, I know…I’m one of those girls. But it’s {sometimes} true!

Birds of a feather hang on lace together.
Busting up.
Bunnies, colorful stones and owls. Oh, my!
Gaggle of goodies.

Style-wise, is there a current trend you can’t stand on men? On women?
Men wearing heels = a big no-no. I have been seeing them on some more well-known fashion blogs like The Sartorialist and I just can’t hack it. I love vintage as much as the next girl but lately I’ve been seeing more & more women who instead resemble little girls or dolls in their vintage floral dresses and tights. I think if you’re in your thirties it’s time to pass on the torch and dress more your age. But, that is just my opinion of course.

What are your favorite styling products?
Lately I’m really into Bumble & Bumble’s undressing creme for my hair & have also been using the Olive Oil cleansing method as an all-natural alternative to face wash.

Pattern recognition: Chevron dress from Forever 21, charcoal thigh-highs and heels from Target.
Ever wonder what Liz has up her sleeve?
Touch of gray.

Have any shopping spots you’re willing to divulge?
I do the majority of my shopping online these days and some of my favorites I frequent are Lulu’s, Threadcase, Fred Flare & Asos.

What are your top five favorite spots in Sacramento?
I enjoy Crimson & Clover, Bows & Arrows, Cuffs, Love Culture, and the H&M, which is in Roseville.

Unrelated to fashion, but because I am interested…what’s on your iPod playlist?
Right now it’s a lot of Adele and The Head and the Heart.

Lean times.
A close call.
The obligatory ring shot.
