Jaclyn Andrade caught my eye from the first moment I saw her. She was assisting local style maven Mary Gonsalves Kinney with Fashion Night Out prep work, and her infectious smile, curly ‘do and punk-rock sensibilities stood out among the other stylish ladies in the room—a true indicator of It-Girl status.
Born and raised in Stockton, CA, Jaclyn currently commutes from her hometown to Sacramento nearly every day of the week for school and work. In fact, she actually brought her wardrobe to me for this CC feature—piling her favorite shoes, accessories, outfits and her younger sister, Daniela, into the car for the drive north.
In addition to being a full-time student and working as a sales rep at Nordstrom, Jaclyn also maintains her own fashion/style blog (Styl(e)volver) and works as styling assistant for Sister | Brother Style and Style Army. A self-professed online shopping addict drawn to all things leather, lace and print, this 23-year-old Latin diva rocks looks that are eclectic and energetic.
Despite protests that she’s not a model (something about not being photogenic—as if!), Jaclyn certainly seemed at home in front of the lens. Here are a couple of shots from our shoot…
How would you describe your style?
I can’t identify myself with one particular style, but I would describe it with two words: eclectic and evolving. I love mixing different styles and trends. It’s always about what I feel comfortable and fabulous in. Also, my style is constantly evolving. Since I first started my blog, my style has been constantly evolving.
If you could raid anyone’s wardrobe whose would it be?
It would definitely be the Olsens, Miley Cyrus and Leandra Medine (from the Man Repeller). I had a list of closets I would love to raid, I just cant find it. It most likely consisted of every well-dressed person I’ve seen and met.
Is there an item you’re currently eyeing?
I really want a pair of Alexander Wang heels. I am not sure which ones because there are a few. The funny thing is, I was not a big shoe girl. Now my wish list consists of shoes. Maybe I’ll add an Alexander Wang Prisma tote bag, only if my funds rapidly grow within the next few months.
What was your most recent wardrobe purchase?
Arson Flame Western Boots from Topshop. Have yet to receive them in the mail, but I’m already in love. They are red velvet, flame leather details, and gold clasps—ahhhh…music to my ears!
What is one item in your closet that you can’t live without?
I can’t live without my jean jacket. It’s old and worn in—perfect with anything.
What’s in your closet that you’ve never worn?
Um, everything in my closet has been worn. I am the type of girl who wears things as soon as they are done being rung up.
How often do you purge items from your closet, and where do your castaways go?
I purge frequently. Whenever I run out of hangers I go through my closet to see what I don’t want anymore. I think it keeps me clean. It’s also a good justification to buy something new. Most of my unwanted clothes go to charity or the Goodwill.
What are your favorite styling products?
I love my Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Defining Crème. It perfects my curls. Also very near and dear to my heart is nail polish and lip gloss/stick. I paint my nails at least twice a week so I have a pretty extensive collection. Some of my favorite brands are Essie, Butter London and Revlon.
Have any shopping spots you’re willing to divulge?
I’m seriously a huge online shopper—especially if there is free shipping. I shop Zara, Shopbop, Nasty Gal, Topshop, ASOS. In real life I love Urban Outfitters, GAP, Forever 21, H&M and all the super cool random boutiques.
Give me your 5 favorite local haunts.
In no particular order:
1. Naked Lounge: I love their coffee, it’s so strong.
2. Heart Clothing Boutique: always has the cutest clothes.
3. Chando’s Tacos: their Mulitas blow my mind, every time (my mouth waters).
4. Centro’s Cocina Mexicana: sangrias are awesome, I also like the atmosphere/decor.
5. Downtown Plaza: I really don’t have a legitimate reason, other than it has so much potential and it’s an outdoor mall—kinda reminds me of LA.
What music do you listen to when you’re getting ready to go out?
I have a bunch of different artist on my iPod. I think people would be pretty surprised. Though, most recently added and repeatedly played would be NAS’s new album “Life is Good.”
